The Roberto Magris/Denis Razz Quartet brings to the music playground a highly energetic and emotional kind of jazz based on a variety of styles (bop, modal, free and spiritual jazz), and gives evidence that some of the world's most engaging and creative jazz music is now being made in Europe.

After a period during which, due to COVID, Roberto Magris did not play any live concerts, when he began to return to the scene, he looked towards Denis Razz who was an old friend. Rijeka, Croatia where the altoist is based is only an hour drive from Trieste, Italy and Roberto has long been familiar with its lively jazz scene. “Denis often invited me to come play with him and we formed a regular quartet with two younger talents: bassist Karlo Ilić (who also plays guitar and oud) and drummer Rajko Ergić (who also plays sax).” 

The Magris/Razz Quartet was only supposed to be an informal and temporary unit as the pianist began to be more active again, but the high quality music that resulted from the new collaboration led to something more permanent. Roberto, the musical director and main recording artist for the JMood label during the past 20 years, introduced the group to its owner and his longtime friend Paul Collins. They decided that the quartet and its music needed to be documented and In Action is the result.
